Description

  • Development of an extension to the existing Kestrel Mine to the west of the existing operations to extract metallurgical coal from the German Creek Seam via longwall mining techniques.
  • The Project will be a direct continuation of the existing mine, utilising the same type of mining approach and equipment.
  • Potential expansion of the Co-Disposal Area at the existing Coal Handling and Preparation Plant.
  • Operation within a project area of approximately 5,644 hectares.
  • Extraction of up to 11 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of run-of-mine (ROM) coal over an approximate 20-year mine life.
  • Transportation of ROM coal to the existing Kestrel Mine processing facility via an 8 km overland conveyor system.

  • Approximately 40km north-east of Emerald.

Environmental impact statement (EIS)

The process for the assessment of this project is as follows:

  1. Submission of draft TOR
  2. Public notification of draft TOR
  3. Final TOR issued—EIS in preparation
  4. Public notification
  5. Proponent responds to submissions
  6. EIS assessment report

The final TOR for the EIS has been issued and the proponent is preparing the EIS.
